Public Safety Advisory

On Saturday, July 8, around 1:20 a.m., UIC Police responded to an activated emergency call box near 500 S. Racine Ave. The victim, who is not affiliated with UIC, reported that an unknown person had taken her vehicle. The victim was driving northbound on S. Racine Ave. near W. Congress Pkwy. when a vehicle driving directly behind her, hit her rear bumper. The victim exited her vehicle to look at the damage. The driver of the striking vehicle exited his car, quickly got into the driver's seat of the victim's car and locked the doors. The offender then fled in the victim's car, a 2014 white Jeep Grand Cherokee, license plate V443365, going northbound on S. Racine Ave. and then westbound on I-290 Expy. The offender is described as a black male, approximately 20 years old, wearing a black t-shirt. Two offenders in the striking vehicle, described only as black males, fled in the same direction in a red 4-door vehicle with possible license plate Q400250. No weapons were used and the offenders did not say anything to the victim prior to taking her car. The victim did not sustain any injuries. Anyone with information is asked to call the Chicago Police Department at 311.
